OBSTETRICS

Obstetrics is the field of study focusing on pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. The providers at Ellisville OB-GYN are experienced in the management of all pregnancies. Our goal is to achieve a healthy pregnancy and delivery, in a safe and encouraging environment. We are each family oriented and feel privileged to be a part of your growing family.

Our Obstetric Patient Program Details

Office Visits

  • 6-10 weeks – Pregnancy Confirmation visit – pregnancy test, ultrasound, and discussion with doctor
  • 10-12 weeks– First visit- Complete physical exam, pap smear, cervical cultures, and blood work
  • 24-28 weeks– Diabetic screen, blood test for Rh antibody, and Rhogam injection if Rh negative
  • 35-37 weeks– Cervical cultures for infection and hemoglobin if previously low or anemic

You will see a healthcare provider monthly until 28 weeks, twice a month until 36 weeks, then weekly until delivery. More frequent visits may be required for high risk pregnancy.

Tests

A prenatal panel will be drawn at your first visit. This is a screening profile of tests to be used as a reference throughout the pregnancy for management of care as well as detect silent infections that need to be treated. Other lab tests may be drawn depending on the needs of each patient.

Optional testing includes but is not limited to:

  • Genetic testing Alpha Fetoprotein Quad screen (a blood test for Down’s Syndrome and Neural tube defect) at 15-20 weeks
  • Amniocentesis (if age 35 or if have a family history of genetic disorder)

Sonograms

Sonograms will be performed in mid-trimester (18-22) weeks, for fetal survey, or at other times as needed. An optional sonogram offered is:

  • 4-D Sonogram between 26-30 weeks

This optional test is not covered by insurance and will require cash pay at time of visit.

Lactation Counseling

Lactation Counseling services are provided by Ashley Floyd, WHNP, Certified Lactation Consultant, at South Central Primary Care Services. For many mothers, breastfeeding is considered the best way to provide nourishment to their babies. However, some mothers encounter problems or need encouraging after leaving the hospital.

Lactation counseling includes:

  • Support
  • Encouragement
  • Advice
  • Personalized Instruction
  • Free Phone Consultations

Breastfeeding moms receive:

  • Personalized instruction from a board-certified lactation consultant.
  • Information and advice on breastfeeding techniques, nutrition for both mom and baby, how to use breast pumps and many other breastfeeding issues.
  • A quiet, tranquil setting offering comfort and discretion.

How to schedule a visit with our Lactation Counselor:

  • This service is available for all nursing mothers. Patients do not have to have a referral or to have given birth at South Central Regional Medical Center.
  • Payment is due at the time services are rendered.
  • Services may or may not be covered by insurance. Check with your insurance company prior to scheduling visit.

Gynecology is the field of study focusing on the specific health needs of women, from puberty to childbearing to menopause. The healthcare providers of Ellisville OB-GYN Clinic provide diagnosis and treatment of the disorders of the female genitourinary tract, including but not limited to infertility, abnormal cycles, vulvar disorders, menopausal concerns, and cervical dysplasia.
